Tips

Laminating films
is available in gloss or matt. Gloss is usually used because the gloss laminate is easy to clean, can be written on with markers or marker pens and wiped clean with special cloths.
Matt laminating films sometimes look more elegant and are non-reflective. This can be very pleasant for training documents, for example, if the light sources are not reflected.

Laminating materials
are available in different thicknesses. Films with 80 µm per film side are usually used. These are just as durable as the thicker films with 125 µm, 175 µm or 250 µm per film side. There are also self-adhesive laminating films. Like labels, these have a peelable backing that is removed after the laminating process in order to stick on the laminate.

Laminates offer no protection against UV radiation. If laminated digital prints are exposed to direct sunlight, they will fade within a few weeks.

Post-processing and trimming of laminates

You can punch holes in the laminate edges for hanging, attach hangers or round off the corners. As long as you make sure that a small film edge remains on the outside, the contents are protected from moisture in the long term. This protection is lost if the film edge is cut off or the laminate itself is perforated or cut through (e.g. to make memory cards). In this case, it is advisable to first cut the cards to the desired size, insert them into the film with sufficient margin/spacing and then cut them out with a few mm film margin. Although this requires more work, it pays off with intensive or long-term use.
